Spring Packing Event

117 BOXES PACKED AT THE EVENT!!
More arrived over the last two weeks, and more boxes were packed, and now 125 BOXES WILL BE SHIPPED OUT!! THIS SETS A NEW RECORD FOR THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF BOXES EVER SHIPPED IN A FEBRUARY EVENT!! WELL DONE TEAM!!

Our Spring Packing Event was hosted this year by Sea Dog Brewery, a new and fantastic restaurant located on the south end of beautiful Treasure Island, Florida. For those that were in attendance, you can vouch for the awesome location and even more so for the food and drink upstairs. In case the manager staff looked familiar, you were not mistaken. Charlie and Victor were the managers at WingHouse back at our 10th anniversary event. When they got the new Sea Dog restaurant opened, Charlie reached out and said they wanted to hold an even there. And boy did they ever! The weather was wonderful, the crowd was incredible, and the event went smoothly and very successfully. A huge thank you to Charlie and Victor and the crew at Sea Dog Brewery! We will definitely be back!

We had our usual packing of goodies, candy, snacks, books, magazines, toiletries, you name it, it was on the tables ready to be shipped! As the day started, there were dozens and dozens of volunteers coming in to bring goods and help us pack the boxes. A big thank you to the Ladies Auxiliary for collecting donations and coming out to help, and to the Blue Star Moms who also gave us lots of goods and dontations, and came to help pack the boxes. There were also a lot of other companies and groups who helped with donations of goods, shipping, and support as well; MBA, Pinellas County School Board, Freedom Sales & Marketing, Largo Area Historical Society, Blue Star Moms, Warner Brothers Marketing, Frankies Patriot BBQ, Michael Jurnigan, and many many more.

We had some folks that have been with us from the beginning, and many new faces as well. We had lots of help, volunteers from all over the bay area and beyond! We had several guests that were also veterans and we got to hear how much things like this meant to them as they helped us pack. A special shout out to many of our biker friends who also came out to our event to help pack, sponsor boxes and made shipping donations as well. It was a great honor to also have some of the American Legion Riders, Patriot Guard, Suncoast Brotherhood, and others out there helping us pack these boxes.

We had many young folks join us and bring goods they collected themselves for our event, something that hits close to our heart. The Girl Scouts in the Bay Area again showed us their support with cases of cookies that were bought and donated to our shipping. Jenn and Alexa, two long time TBTS supporters, were there with more girl scout cookies to sell for our event and for our participants to take home and enjoy. This year, we were also joined by the East Lake High School Robotics Group - Team 79 Krunch. These fine young men and women handled all of our inspecting, packing, closing and numbering of all of our boxes for the event. They also helped set up and break down that day - thank you Team 79 Krunch, we hope to work more with you in the future!

We also had a lot of younger ones come out to help pack our boxes. This is something that means an awful lot to all of us at TBTS - we want to give a heartfelt thank you to the parents of the kids in attendance. By bringing the kids out to an event and getting them involved, this plants seeds for the future - valuable seeds for these kids to grow up with the appreciation and understanding of giving to those who protect our freedoms. It is a wonderful bright view of the future leaders of our country. We are proud to have you as part of our effort year after year.

We have teamed up with Thomas Brown and Tampa Homeless Outreach - a local veteran outreach program to help provide care packages to our homeless veterans in the bay area. We were able to help them with items that were not able to be shipped overseas due to shipping rules (aerosols, glass, bulk, etc). We will continue to ship to our overseas troops and also volunteer at events for the veteran outreach programs as well. This will continue to be another way for us to show ALL veterans that they are appreciated and honored. At home and abroad.

We added a new board member who has really helped us get moving forward and getting our name out there. Joni Raycroft is a dynamo when it comes to ideas, fund raising, getting people involved, and just all around a beautiful person. We are grateful to have her on board, and look forward to many new and creative ways that TBTS will grow. Thank you Joni - we love you!

On a personal note, I am very proud of what we do. I know I say it an awful lot, but it never loses a single bit of meaning with me - you folks are an amazing group of people. We have been at this a long time - this is our 12th year sending packages! Together we all have gathered on a regular basis and packed boxes to ship to our troops, and every time, it brings a tear to my eyes watching it all unfold.

Tampa Bay Troop Support has grown beyond my wildest dreams. It has done so because of the drive and dedication of our members who always keep the project going. Thank you so much for believing in this effort and coming back time after time to join us.

Thank you to all of those unsung heroes that never appear in any of the pictures on the site, but never fail, year after year, to take time and hit that PayPal button on the website, or drop us a check in the mail - your donations are key to us being able to ship out the packages - you make that happen! And thank you to our many corporate sponsors who always come through with donations for goods and postage!

More than anything, I want to thank our Troops - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Reserves - all of you who stepped up and signed the line to protect the nation we live in. Thank you to those who have been there and back, those who have served, and those that are still serving, and prayers up for those that served and will not return. You incredible men and women are the reason we do what we do. You make sacrifices every day so that we may live in peace and enjoy the freedoms of our great country. You represent the ideals and honor of the United States of America, and we are proud of you.

You are our True American Heroes.
