Holiday Packing Event

160 BOXES PACKED AT THE EVENT!!
More arrived over the weekend, and by the time we are through, MORE THAN 300 boxes will be shipped for the holidays!!!

Our Holiday Packing Event was hosted this year by American Legion Post 273 on beautiful Madeira Beach, Florida. Tampa Bay Troop Support has found a new home by invite from the Legion Commander and the Ladies Auxiliary. We have had three very successful events there, and look forward to many more. I want to give a huge note of thanks to all of those involved in making Tampa Bay Troop Support feel welcomed, and again to those who came out to support our event!

We had our usual packing of goodies, candy, snacks, books, magazines, toiletries, you name it, it was on the tables ready to be shipped! As the day started, there were dozens of volunteers coming in to bring goods and help us pack the boxes. A big thank you to the Ladies Auxiliary for collecting goods and coming out to help, and to the Legion Commander - Jim White - who also gave us $500 in donations toward our shipping! There were also a lot of other companies and groups who helped with donations of goods, shipping, and support as well; MBA, Pinellas County School Board, Freedom Sales & Marketing, Clearwater Threshers, Tampa Bay Rays, Cross Components, Largo Area Historical Society, Silicon Systems, Great Clips Bardmoor, Madeira Beach Brown Boxer, Biff Burger, Kimberly Harker, Melanie Rivera, and many many more.

Our Holiday Packing Event was hosted this year by American Legion Post 273 on beautiful Madeira Beach, Florida.

We had some folks that have been with us from the beginning, and many new faces as well. We had lots of help, volunteers from all over the bay area and beyond! We had several guests that were also veterans and we got to hear how much things like this meant to them as they helped us pack. A special shout out to many of our biker friends who also came out to our event, especially the Stillettos on Steel MC, who also sponsored boxes and made shipping donations as well. It was a great honor to also have some of the American Legion Riders, Patriot Guard, Suncoast Brotherhood, and others out there helping us pack these boxes.

We had many young folks join us and bring goods they collected themselves for our event, something that hits close to our heart. The Girl Scouts in the Bay Area again showed us their support with hundreds of Christmas stockings, packed with goodies, and ready to deliver. Darcy Edwards and her kids made a drive at the school and for the second year in a row, donated over 200 pounds of Halloween candy to be shipped to our troops. The Young Mens Service League of South Tampa joined us again - going on five years of volunteer service with us and always a big help.

We also had a lot of younger ones come out to help pack our boxes. This is something that means an awful lot to all of us at TBTS - we want to give a heartfelt thank you to the parents of the kids in attendance. By bringing the kids out to an event and getting them involved, this plants seeds for the future - valuable seeds for these kids to grow up with the appreciation and understanding of giving to those who protect our freedoms. It is a wonderful bright view of the future leaders of our country. We are proud to have you as part of our effort year after year.

We have teamed up with Thomas Brown and Tampa Homeless Outreach - a local veteran outreach program to help provide care packages to our homeless veterans in the bay area. We were able to help them with items that were not able to be shipped overseas due to shipping rules (aerosols, glass, bulk, etc). We will continue to ship to our overseas troops and also volunteer at events for the veteran outreach programs as well. This will continue to be another way for us to show ALL veterans that they are appreciated and honored. At home and abroad.

We added a new board member who has really helped us get moving forward and getting our name out there. Joni Raycroft is a dynamo when it comes to ideas, fund raising, getting people involved, and just all around a beautiful person. We are grateful to have her on board, and look forward to many new and creative ways that TBTS will grow. Thank you Joni - we love you!

On a personal note, I am very proud of what we do. I know I say it an awful lot, but it never loses a single bit of meaning with me - you folks are an amazing group of people. We have been at this a long time - this is our 11th year sending packages! Together we all have gathered on a regular basis and packed boxes to ship to our troops, and we even became a real non-profit organization in the process. Tampa Bay Troop Support has grown beyond my wildest dreams. It has done so because of the drive and dedication of our members who always keep the project going. Thank you so much for believing in this effort and coming back time after time to join us.

Thank you to all of those unsung heroes that never appear in any of the pictures on the site, but never fail, year after year, to take time and hit that PayPal button on the website, or drop us a check in the mail - your donations are key to us being able to ship out the packages - you make that happen! And thank you to our many corporate sponsors who always come through with donations for goods and postage!

More than anything, I want to thank our Troops - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Reserves - all of you who stepped up and signed the line to protect the nation we live in. Thank you to those who have been there and back, those who have served, and those that are still serving, and prayers up for those that served and will not return. You incredible men and women are the reason we do what we do. You make sacrifices every day so that we may live in peace and enjoy the freedoms of our great country. You represent the ideals and honor of the United States of America, and we are proud of you.

You are our True American Heroes.
